Bike Racking
There's nothing better than a good team bike rack when you are at a 24hr race. Gripsport
make a beauty, Minoura do too, and over the years we've seen some
pretty cool back-yardies made from steel, alloy, plastic, local
timber... and even a Hills Hoist. Here's a couple that you may see at the race. Get your thinking caps on and 'inventualise something even betterer' :0)
From some OAFS and Aardvarks (years ago): Take some standard metal box section and weld it up to make a sturdy (and easily transported/assembled) rack. This one has seen many, many races.
From James: I made this rack from a hammock frame thrown out at a council cleanup, the top tube is 2 old roof rack cross bars, it disassembles to 1.1m long &15cm wide.
Matt from Cyclopaths uses a folding ladder to hold mountain bikes at races. By hooking the bikes up with their saddles on alternate sides of the horizontal section six bikes can be racked at a time; plus two bikes can be lent against the legs making a total of eight bikes and still be stable...
