Rawhide Roller Racing - Correction
Saturday, April 3, 2010

Oops, it seems I reported the Roller Racing results in error in the Mont 24 Wrap-Up Newsletter. It was Daniel Rickard who won the Rawhide Roller Race final in a close fought battle with all riders within a second of each other. He got the trophy, the cash and the glory. Well done Daniel.

Vale James Williamson
Wednesday, March 24, 2010

We are very sad to learn news of James' passing away while competing at the Cape Epic in South Africa. This news will come as a great shock to all that knew him as James was one of the nicest guys you would ever meet (on track or off) with an incredible attitude to life. James was very well known and regarded to all of us here at the Mont event. The mountain biking community has lost a very bright star and will miss him deeply. We wish to express our condolences to James' family, his partner Nikki and his friends.

Camping along the Creek Run...?
Monday, March 22, 2010

Now this is subject to approval, but there is a reasonably good chance that an amount of camping will be allowed on the opposite side of transition near the creek run (the last few hundred metres of the lap.) This is to reduce impacts in the rolling woodland. If you like cheering on riders, this could be the place to be. No cars are allowed in this area of course, but it is still a hot location. Check with the Race Headquarters (portable office near the Rego Tent)

Mont Movie Festival
Saturday, March 6, 2010

Cannes, Flickerfest, Sundance, Whistler - all famous film festivals, and not one of them held in a forest. We'll fix that oversight in 2010 as we host the inaugural MTB Film Festival in and amongst the action of the Mont 24 Hour MTB Race 2010. You are invited to submit an entry.

Naturally the theme is 'Mountain Biking' in all its guises - Enduro, Trials, XC Trails, Pump Track, Downhill, Freeride, Touring, Training, Advocacy, 24hr riding or simply out having fun on the trail with your mates.

So grab your buddies, grab a camera and start making that compelling mini-epic. With a great range of prizes and exposure of your film-making efforts to an audience of 5000 or so bike mad movie goers, this is a wonderful opportunity.

The rules are simple:

  • Your film must be mountain bike related (or just bike related)
  • Music and other media must not be the copyright of another person (this includes your soundtrack) unless you have written permission to use it (ie: a copyright clearance)
  • Entries are to be submitted in AVI Quicktime in HD DVD format, and capable of being projected onto a wide screen
  • The film must be your original work (i.e. not purloined from the net)
  • Maximum time limit is 15 minutes of film, including credits
  • 10 secs of blank film at the start and end of the footage is required
  • The rating of the film must be Mature (M) or less. For further clarification please visit www.oflc.gov.au (Note: films do not have to be officially classified)
  • The judges decision is final and the top ten movies will be screened at the MONT 24hr 2010.
Entries close on Monday 22 March 2010. Entry forms will be available from the event website.

Go on... get that camera out... don't muck about.

Thinning Operations at Sparrow
Friday, March 5, 2010

Thinning operations in Sparrow Hill are in full swing. The area being thinned is indicated on this MAP, however in the interests of rider safety the South-West corner has been completely closed to riders for the time being. When you arrive at the top gate, you will see that Big Dipper track is closed and a new entrance into Nut Cracker has been opened. Use this entrance, as it will take you through to the South-East corner and offers over 20 kms of great tracks to play on.

All riders are to co-operate and comply with these redirections. Failure to do the right thing could result in restrictions being imposed by the land managers. This work is only for a couple of months and tracks will be cleared and reopened once the harvesting is complete. At present the harvesting crews work two shifts which run from  6 AM – 11 PM. Riders should be aware that big B-double semis are hauling logs out the back of the forest down block 9 fire road - the the main road in and out of Sparrow. Accordingly, you should avoid using the main road above the toilet gate. Trucks may also be hauling out during the night time. If you wish to ride a fire road, make sure it is the one on the east side (left hand side) of the fence. You are welcome to ride to the top gate using Dunny Track, Zippetys, & McGinty’s Climb, you just need to be aware when exiting, and look and listen for trucks.

Ride to Save Manly Dam
Saturday, February 13, 2010

Warringah Council announced recently they are closing all the single track sections of Manly Dam effective immediately. This is a highly popular riding amenity for our mates on the Northern Beaches. The guys at NobMob have posted information about the decision HERE. They have also organised a ride to demonstrate to council (and the media) how important the Manly Dam Circuit is for the mountain biking community. They need your support to help keep Manly Dam open. Attend the ride on 6th March at 9.00am leaving from King Street (near corner with Arana Street), Manly Vale. More information can be found HERE

Golden Ticket Comp Winners
Thursday, January 14, 2010

We received many entries in our competition. A few were truly inspired, a number were good, a few were pleading and some others were quite desperate. The most imaginative and entertaining story came from Duncan Sheppard from Dad's Army and their penmanship has earned them a Golden Ticket entry into the Mont. Their story is HERE. Of course, we look forward to seeing Duncan and his men turning out laps in full military uniform and quoting one liners from the TV Show as they pass through transition..

The runner up entry came from Ron Brent with 'The Excuse from Snowy River', which had us smiling throughout, though in need of a nap at the end. They also receive a Golden Ticket entry for their efforts.

Thank you to all who entered.
